2011 in Review: Vuelta a Espana Stage 17

The Vuelta too often gets lost in the late season shuffle. It’s too bad. Last year’s race was fun, exciting and dynamic. The revelation of the race was SKY’s Chris Froome, who made a name for himself and moved up to share team leadership with teammate Bradley Wiggins. On one of the largest climbs of the entire Grand Tour, Froome went head to head with Juan Jose Cobo of Geox for the win on the stage and the overall victory. With Wiggins struggling, Cobo broke up the race and only Froome was able to match the pace. Wiggins faded quickly, but the fireworks were only just beginning. Watch the final 100 meters and count the lead changes. You just don’t see that in bike racing, folks.
