A free bike race? Hell hath gotten chilly. kolo tc and the Grand Valley State Collegiate Cycling team present the very first There Will Be Blood Unofficial Gravel Road Race. No registration, no fees, no categories. Just one of the toughest races you’ll ever do.
A week out from the Barry-Roubaix, the race is an excellent and local way to get in race-intensity competition before The Killer March 24th. Be at the Allendale Biggby at 12.30pm Sunday, March 18 to attend a quick rider’s meeting before a one lap ‘neutral’ start to check out the course. The race will be criterium style. Two hours of racing, with the bell lap coming when the first place rider comes around after two hours. Next man around wins a GVSU t-shirt, a kolo tc sticker pack and a free latte from Biggby Coffee.
Each lap is 5 miles of primarily gravel roads and about 2 miles of pavement. The loose gravel and ruts make for some difficult miles, but the main obstacle is the infamous Paterberg climb. Named after one of the most well-known bergs in the Ronde van Vlaanderan, ‘De Paterberg’ is a .4 mile, 101 foot wall that hits gradients as steep as 13%.
You can join the event on Facebook right here and be sure to join us this Sunday, March 18 at 12.30 for the best FREE race you’ll do this year.
