2012 Fisk Knob Time Trial Preview

“The Race of Truth” wastes no time coming to Michigan once again. For the 32rd year, the Fisk Knob Time Trial marks the first true test on the road.

Presented by the wonderful folks at Fusion Cycling, the Fisk Knob TT is a well-run, trustworthy measure of early season fitness and form. It’s 17 mile mile course features an absolutely screaming descent out of the start house before making two hairpin corners and heading back up to the steep slopes of Fisk Knob County Park.

The race caps at just 180 riders, and for the third straight year the race has filled up before race day. A special ten, $50 spots have been made available for purchase. All of the proceeds from these entries are donated directly to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the charity the FKTT is supporting in 2012. Lance Armstrong’s bike will also be on hand, and racers and fans can get a photo astride the legendary steed.

2011’s edition was marked by freezing temperatures and a gentle but frigid breeze. Even a rash of ice on the course couldn’t stop some of Michigan’s best road cyclists from testing themselves on their time trial machines, or simply rolling out their regular bikes and testing their legs, lungs and souls against the clock.

Last year’s top time was put down by James Minnema (Bissell), with an absolutely scorching 39:56:58. Close on his heels was Alex Vanias with a 40:25:45. The top women’s time was set by Chrysta Lienczewski (Fraser Bicycles) with a 50:05:88.
