Photo of the Week: The SKY’s The Limit

After Geraint Thomas took the prologue, Team Sky rolled along protecting both Thomas and team leader Bradley Wiggins. In an unlikely sprint finish, the skeletal Brit with the Oasis haircut, Wiggo surprised many by going for the win. Hold up; isn’t that Mark Cavendish’s job? Isn’t Romandie supposed to be a debacle for Sky as they struggle to hold yellow and green for their two big stars? Aren’t they supposed to slump along, the cycling version of the Miami Heat? Nope. They’ve held the leader’s jersey for the entirety of the race, have two stage wins and still have Mick Rogers in second place, 7 seconds back. It’s 2 seconds more to third place, and Sky has the the two-prong card to play. In the final stages, they have the option to threaten with Rogers and let Wiggo mark wheels. It’s a team where it’s all for one, one for all, with even the World Champ taking pulls on the front along the flat sections. Today’s stage features four categorizes climbs before a 24km descent to the finish, just ahead of a time trial tomorrow to cap off the race.
