After being taken out by Roberto Ferrari and a disappointing team time trial, World Champion Mark Cavendish is back to his winning ways. The Manx Missile beat a hard-charging Matthew Goss on Stage 5 of the Giro yesterday morning, a fitting return to dominance. It would appear the only way to beat Cav is to take him out, a tactic Ferrari’s team apologized for after Stage 3. Cav celebrated with his girlfriend and new baby daughter after the stage and credited a superb and superior SKY leadout train with the media. Geraint Thomas pulled lead-out duty and was the last man left for Cav before the Brit put the power down and ended up with a bike length over. With the first rippling, hilly stages coming up, it may be a short while until we see Cav win again, but he’ll be back in the mix very soon.
