The 2012 racing season is well underway, but after the string of road and mountain bike races from May to June, it’s time for some to take a step back and simply enjoy the ride. The Long and Short’s Ride certainly fits the bill.
Short’s Brewery is getting out the fat tires to raise money for the Michigan Mountain Bike Association. On Saturday, June 23, some of the hippest cats in the cave will head out to the North Country Trail for rides of 16, 26 and even 54 miles capped off with a catered meal and plenty of Short’s on tap.
The entry fee goes to MMBA, the state’s best organization supporting mountain bike trails and advocacy. In addition, the entry fee includes the meal and one night’s stay at the Kalkaska Campground and RV Park. That wonderful little cove of fun will be home to the post ride party and the assumed shenanigans thereat.
The North Country Trail is one of the best systems of singletrack and trail in the state and the relaxed pace of the Long and Short’s Ride gives riders of all abilities the opportunity to enjoy the woods. Challenging and just plain enjoyable for everyone from beginners to Elite racers, the trail is the feather in Michigan’s cap and the product of a lot of hard work. MMBA draws on the support of riders and communities to maintain stellar trail systems like the North Country Trail and Short’s is proud to be involved in keeping it the best in the state.
To register, head over here. The ride offers a number of start locations and times, which you can check here. Don’t forget to RSVP on Facebook, and follow the event to keep up with new developments. And as always, enjoy the ride.
