The Olympics Are Coming: The Cycling Schedule

It’s the best Summer of Cycling since 2008. The Olympics are almost here. Don’t miss any cycling.

It’s fitting, in many ways, that the Road Race essentially kicks off the 2012 London Games, as Great Britain will enter the race with Mark Cavendish as the favorite. He’ll be armed, as it were, with Tour champ Bradley Wiggins and second place overall Chris Froome. No team is as stacked as Great Britain, though other squads are obviously bristling with talent as well. We will get into predictions later this week, however.

The Women’s Road Race is Sunday, capping an exciting weekend of racing over the famed Box Hill circuit. The Men’s and Women’s Time Trial will both take place on August 1. That is followed the 2nd by Day One of the track events, starting with the team pursuit. As you may or may not recall, kolo t.c.’s Olympic athlete to watch, Geraint Thomas, will be pushing for a team pursuit gold and a new world record in the process.

Track events fill up much of the week until those conclude on Day Six, August 7th, which gives way to BMX qualifying. The Women’s Mountain Bike takes place August 11th, with Catherine Pendrel, Emily Batty, Julie Bresset and the others toeing the line for the gold medal. The Men’s race is August 12th, capping off the cycling events.

kolo t.c. will have event previews, recaps, video (when possible) and as many links as time, employment and internet access allows. For the cycling events schedule, click right about here.
