Yet another active weekend in the Murder Mitten. What are you up to?
The Cross the Bay CX kicks off the inaugural season of cyclocross racing in Northern Michigan with Breezeway Cross in East Jordan. The series has drawn the likes of John Leach and Jorden Wakeley of Einstein Racing to the first event, assuring everyone that there will be firepower aplenty in the As. The race starts at 4pm with the C race, which is almost always the most entertaining race of the day and well worth stopping by early to watch their flurry of high-speed fury.
The Leelanau Harvest Tour caps the weekend on Sunday. Options of different routes, including a full century, are on the docket for those looking to ride through the most beautiful place on earth. As the orchard and vineyards yawn past and the rolling hills offer views of myriad lakes and shorelines, riders enjoy outstanding company and great support from the Cherry Capital Cycling Club. It’s the sort of ride everyone needs to take at least once a year to keep the legs moving but also to simply enjoy our beautiful area.
Proceeds from the Harvest Tour go to TART, and the event has raised over $130,000 since 1999. The ride starts in Suttons Bay and doesn’t stop until you have had, for lack of a better word, enough.
