Over ten inches of snow nearly buried any chance of the second Inside Out CX of 2013.
A well-timed show of support from Village Motorsports in Grand Rapids will ensure that the snow will be gone from the course with plenty of time before Sunday. The recent winter storms left over ten inches of snow in Greenville, making the course impossible to ride with just a few days before the second Inside Out race of the season is due to take the line.
The extra help will give racers another chance to tackle the BMX course and the twisting pine avenues that make Inside Out such a great event. Last time, a talent-packed field took the line in C, B and A races, and with races like St. Fatty’s Day, Barry-Roubaix and Lowell 50 approaching, expect a star-studded cast February 24. Among the names rumored to be making the trip are Alex Vanias aboard a freshly built Giant CX bike, Ryan Cross, who’ll be making his Einstein Racing debut, and returning champion Craig Gietzen.
Perhaps the most exciting addition for the race is the full-cast of North Coutry Cycle Sport racers expected to come down en masse, including Chad Wells, Ross Gibbs, Trever Kingsbury, Zac Backus and John Cowan. The NCCS crew is building up for another big year with a stacked team
Women’s winner from January, Chelsea Strate, is on the fence, and may opt to spend time doing altitude training ahead of her St. Fatty’s Day battle for the overall points title. Kati Krikke may bump up to the Women’s A race, though who’ll she will be challenged by is a very good mystery up until the gun.
Registration for Inside Out Cyclocross is just $15, day-of only, with the first events starting at 2pm. Racers looking to get in solid race miles ahead of a busy March schedule will no doubt target Inside Out’s final two stops as top end efforts before the big races of the spring.
