The 2013 Top Banana Competition’s first A race shook up the overall.

Justin Lindine came a long ways to take the Barry-Roubaix win, plus nabbed a neat pile of Top Banana Competition points in the process. For at least two weeks, he’ll be the leader-in-situ until the Lowell 50 gives the likes of Alex Vanias, Craig Gietzen, Jorden Wakeley and others have a shot at ten points.

For the riders that can take the title, Barry-Roubaix shaped up to open a number of points gaps that may be tough to overcome. Mike Anderson laid the ground work for his title defense with a second place and 14 points. Jordan Diekema, Alex Vanias, Jorden Wakeley and Dan Korienek kept in the hunt, with Vanias putting some points from Inside Out Cyclocross on the table to keep him fifth overall. Last fall’s Lowell 50 winner Dan Korienek sits a threatening 11th place at the moment, and could move way up overall if he can repeat his win.

Anderson’s race schedule, like Diekema’s and Vanias’, will play a big part in the overall outcome of the Competition, but there’s a lot of points still on offer this year. However, with only a few A races on the program and one of them off the table, the chances to make up big points are already diminishing. The next A race isn’t until the West Branch Road Race in June.

The next big opportunity is in two weeks at the Lowell 50’s spring edition. Some of the best gravel racers will be back on their 35mm for the second gravel race of the year, and the last big points haul before Mud, Sweat and Beers in May. The Queen’s Day Crit, however, will serve as an emergency shot for the roadies on April 28th.
