The Giant of Grayling has a lead, but Derek Graham pulls points as well.
Jorden Wakeley took an impressive win against BISSELL’s Derek Graham Saturday, and with a trio of road races on deck, it was his last chance to take points until July.
Though 5 points may seem insignificant with so many races left on the Programme, they are all important for the mountain bike-only Wakeley. Graham, Mike Anderson, Alex Vanias and many of the other riders currently in the top ten will have the chance to take wins or at least take on some points in the next three weeks. West Branch, Mount Pleasant and the Cherry-Roubaix will offer a combined 240 points, and the BISSELL squadron will be waiting in the wings to snag as many as possible the rest of the way.
Saturday saw Wakeley take 5 points and Graham 4, with Einstein Racing’s Ron Sanborn snagging 3 with teammate Nate St. Onge taking home 2.
Wakeley will be especially thankful for the revised addition of Boyne Marathon on July 14. One of the toughest events in the state, Wakeley has won at Boyne Mountain in the past and will need to defend his crown if he wants to stand a chance of reclaiming the win this fall.
