The Competition returns to Thompsonville on the the slopes of Crystal Mountain.

The opportunities are more valuable than ever as Peak2Peak gives riders just three races left to nab points. Build up for the Iceman Cometh is in full swing, but the race is now as prestigious a win as is on offer in Michigan. The summit of the Crystal Climb has been the stage for some serious theatrics in recent years, and 2013 will be no different.

Last year, the race was stopped a lap short due to freezing, dangerous conditions. Most of the field lacked functional brakes and shivered their way to the line.

Immune to the cold were the likes of Cole House, a two-time winner, and the elite men’s field that will feature Alex Vanias and Jorden Wakeley once again. Those two are the big guns for the Competition, with Derek Graham also looking for a boost. For Vanias, a win or podium could be enough to seal the deal, provided Scott Hoffner doesn’t score too many at the Iceman November 2. Wakeley is a ways back, but still is in for a shot at the podium. Derek Graham will be looking to give BISSELL a trademark 1-2 on the season and its certainly within reach.

At the moment, none of the women in the top ten are registered for Peak2Peak. If that holds true, it’ll come down to the Iceman Cometh to decide the battle between teammates Lauri Brockmiller and Bridget Widrig. The Hagerty duo have been on a tear all season, but they will need to hope Amanda Schaap, Melissa Ryba or another top ten rider take top points. With Sue Stephens registered and the big favorite for Saturday, they’re also letting one of the best riders in the Midwest back into the hunt. She’s  a full 40 points back, but she’ll be making a bid for the podium.

Stay tuned for a race preview later in the week in the build up for Peak2Peak Mountain Weekend.
