The road race state championships are back in Lawton, and the whole event is retooled and ready to impress.

Road race titles are up for grabs July 13, with Maple Hills Race For The Wishes back as host for Championship Saturday. It’s the second year that Lawton will play as the proving grounds for some of the fastest racers in the state.

Just like last year, the heat expects to play a deciding role in the race, especially if the good weather holds strong through mid-July. The course has seen some changes form the 2013 edition, with slightly more elevation the most intriguing. More selection will be key for safety in a number of the fields, which saw nearly capacity registration in most categories. It’s still likely to be a bunch sprint, but with some sections of the course open and exposed to fields, a breakaway using any crosswinds could ride their luck to a finish.

You can check out the new course, as well as target the hot dogs currently on the Strava Segment leaderboard, here.

Registration ends today on USA Cycling, and registration is filling up quickly. The fee is currently at the reduced $40 mark, and categories are bumping over the 30 rider mark in most classes.
