Short’s Brewing Fat Bike Series Standings: One Race To Go!

BEER

There’s just one race left of the Series, and things are tighter than ever for the Series hopefuls! Beard of Zeus is the final test of the year, and there’s still plenty of points on offer for riders to move up the standings. And after The Vineyard Race, all the men’s categories are still in play.

Birgit Yetter did wrap up the Women’s Masters on Sunday, riding unopposed and cruising to her first win ever. She did it in style, too, with a massive smile on her face and a word of encouragement for every rider around. She can now rest assured that the Series in the bag no matter what happens March 5.

Liz Belt, too, put a punctuation point on her first full SBFBS by doing the double victory, winning the race and moving into the Series lead. Her teammate Erin Reicha came home second and now sits second in the Series as well. Both are safe atop the standings with third placed Danielle Musto opting to travel for her last race of the fat bike season. It will be Belt’s first win, but Einstein Racing-Short’s Brewing has dominated since the inception, with Chelsea Strate and Stacy Smith former champions, plus Beth Collins’ Master’s win.

Series leader Jorden Wakeley will miss Beard of Zeus, but it means Sunday’s thriller was all the more important. Ryan Kennedy, Keegan Myers and Nick Wierzba entered even on points, and fought tooth and nail to find some separation between them. Over the 2,300 feet of climbing, the trio finally came apart, with Kennedy moving 3 points clear of Wierzba and a full 7 clear of Myers. Kennedy will be up against it at BoZ, where he’ll have to make a podium to ensure he’s safe.

The Men’s Master’s is still close, with Rob Goepfrich now six points in front of teammate Hal BeVier and a further eight up on Keith Conway. Barring anything crazy from Steve Parker, or a united front from the Hagerty Master’s squad that would include Steve Andriese, Craig Webb and Paul Olson, which would be a huge boost for both Goepfrich and BeVier.
