April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the fine folks at Yen Yoga & Fitness are dedicating an afternoon of classes to raise money to help the Women’s Resource Center. The WRC is a wonderful nonprofit that provides 24/7 emergency intervention services for women and children in danger of abuse. The WRC also provides long-term housing and resources to help women and their families escaping from physical and emotional abuse in their homes.
Sexual assault remains a very real threat to women around the world. 1 out of every 6 women has been the victim of attempted or completed rape in their lifetime. 55% of rapes occurred at or near a victim’s home, which shows just how important it is for women to have access to places like the Women’s Resource Center to escape their homes to a safe place. Without the WRC and places like it, there is simply nowhere for at-risk women to go. We want to make sure the WRC is here in Northern Michigan as a resource for years to come and we’re so happy to see Yen Yoga & Fitness backing the WRC.
The following classes on Friday, April 27 will be donation-based. Toss in $5, $50, or whatever you can to help raise money to protect our vulnerable friends and neighbors in Northern Michigan. You can book these classes beginning on April 19th by calling Yen’s front desk (231.421.5496) or signing up on their website. Our very own Wes “Not Cody” Sovis will be teaching the 5:30 cycling class and donating his pay to the WRC.
