June is the Month to Do Some Good (in Spandex)

If you’re looking for the right time to do some good (while looking fabulous in Spandex) for some Michigan communities, June is a great month to be alive. Whether you’re into road biking or prefer shredding gnar, there’s an opportunity for you to get out there and help some people out. Here are a few events coming up to circle and get signed up for.

Bike Benzie’s Up North Race, Time Trial and Tour

June 1 – Register Here

For me, spring isn’t really in the air until we’re all out at Crystal Mountain to kick off Bike Benzie. The event is now celebrating its eleventh year, and it could be the best one yet. Organized by the Benzie Sunrise Rotary, this fundraiser helps generate money so that students in the Benzie community have access to books, take fields trips, college tours, and attend career fairs. From kindergarten to seniors in high school, this race helps Benzie students get a leg up on life. You can view their complete community impact synopsis on their website – it’s really impressive.

Split the Mitt – Less Cancer Ride 2019

June 9 – Register Here

The best way to reduce the instances of cancer is through prevention. Less Cancer works at a local, state, and national level to fight the environmental and cultural causes of cancer in the U.S. and beyond. This bike ride/Spandex parade/fundraiser will help give Less Cancer the resources it needs to change policy and change lives. A change in habits and a change of thinking can help millions avoid a cancer diagnosis later in life. And all you have to do it get your credit card out and/or help spread the word. You can get more info on the ride on their FB event page.

Consider making a donation for Dan Ellis’s efforts and he’ll bring back this EPIC mustache. Donate here.

Racing for Home

June 9 – Register Here

With two fundraisers on the same day, we’re splitting the kolo squad to be in two places at once. Our riders racing at Racing for Home are in for a treat. The race is held at 45 North Vineyard, one of the most idyllic places on the face of the Earth. All proceeds will go towards Habitat for Humanity – Grand Traverse Region, and this year’s event will contribute to building a home for a family in Suttons Bay. Bikes, vineyards, and wine? What a better way to do some good in northern Michigan.

You’ll also see a HUGE turnout from the Norte Youth Cycling squad, which is so cool to see. Last year, there may have been more kids than adults at the race, and we’re hoping to see the same thing this year.

Can’t make it? Consider making a donation to Habitat for Humanity – GTR right over here.

Be sure to follow us on FB, Insta, and Twitter. You should also #TOTES join our Strava club. A big thank you to our sponsors for helping us attend and promote awesome fundraising events like these all year long!
