Garrett was back in action at SOL, and he brought down the top time of the year considerably!
The youngest set a new top mark for 2021, delivering a 35:55 and bringing Ryan “Mr. President” Kennedy along for the ride. The pair topped the charts like BTS, which held the top two spots on the charts on October 17, 2020. Elvis Presley was the first artist to hold the top two songs in the US way, way back in 1956. The Beatles accomplished the feat in February of 1964, when they would ultimately hold the entire top five.
Anyway.
Perhaps the biggest gainer of the week was Jim Jackovatz, who finished fourth overall and cut his deficit to the WorldTour lead in half. He’s now just six points behind Cody Sovis, who sits on 110 points after a lackluster showing to kick off July.
Those two are anything but in the clear, with Chris Johnston, Sam Holmes, and now Ryan Kennedy now suddenly looking like real contenders. John O’Hearn jumps into the top ten overall, an impressive mark considering he has just two SOL finishes under his belt for 2021.
Next up, it’s the Queen Stage! Once a year, we do it twice. Again, you’ve got all week to put in two laps of the course and, as befits the toughest ride of the Speed of Light season, points will be doubled as well.
As a way to get in some race fitness before the Traverse City Trails Festival presented by Short’s Brewing, we’re doing something a little special. Join us Saturday, July 17 at 8 am for a special Speed of Light Queen Stage. We’ll count all times from Saturday to make sure you can fit it in, but you might as well do it with a crew.
