The TCTF presented by Stone Hound Brewing offered up another sweltering edition of Traverse City’s famous singletrack shredfest.
As you’d expect for a peak-summer Saturday, temperatures started in the mid-70s and only inched up from there. Two hours later, as the 28 mile racers were coming back to finish at Ranch Rudolf, the mercury shimmered up to 90 degrees.
Men’s Elite – (Not) Feeling The Heat
Garrett Jenema has been putting in some impressive rides all season long and has committed to nailing his singletrack skills ahead of a podium run at Iceman this fall. His impressive win at TCTF shows he’s headed in the right direction. Of all the Traverse City Trails Festival results over the years, this is likely the most dominate of Elite wins.
Jenema’s teammate, Max Mayer, came home to give the 3T Q+M squad a 1-2, with John Burmeister taking a breaking from his home improvement projects to grab third.
Women’s Elite
Julie Medema showed up and we mean she SHOWED UP. A big win for “Shreddy Betty” Up North, while the hometown kid, Emma Schwab, barreled through the dust to come in second. Erica Stehouwer rounded up the podium in what ended up being one of the deepest women’s fields around.

Love the TCTF? Support the organization behind the race and behind the trails by becoming a NMMBA member today. (Tomorrow also works, but two days? That’s insane.)
Keep your eyes peeled on SBFBS.com for NMMBA’s fat bike racing series this winter, too.
What’s Next?
TC is rolling again next weekend for Patrick’s Heavy Ride! Since 2018, this event has become a BIG fundraiser for Norte Youth Cycling. Choose from multiple distances ranging from 123 miles to I-have-other-stuff-to-do on July 30 and help us get more kids on bikes.
The ride leaves Darrow Park at 7:30 am.
