It’s a huge weekend in Northern Michigan. One might go so far as to say, fat.

The Northern Michigan Fat Bike Series kicks off for 2013 in absolutely perfect conditions. After a week with no snow and warm temperatures, the Northern Lower is starting to look a bit more like itself mid-January. Frigid temps and flurries have delivered snow for Fat Chance! this Sunday at Crystal Mountain Resort, and there’s more snow on the way.

Jorden Wakeley will make the start in Thompsonville looking to stay perfect on his obese-bike after crushing victories, including last weekend’s demonstration at Cannonsburg, where he lapped the whole field….twice. His top competition this weekend should come from in-house, with none other than the Boss Man hisself, Jason Lowetz, making an early season appearance alongside the Brothers Kushman (Chris and Ryan), “Murder” Mickey Humpula and a host of others as well. Einstein Racing’s home series will also draw out Chelsea Strate in the women’s race, where she’ll look to take her second win of the young 2013 season.

The race is a final tune-up ahead of the Fat Bike World Championships next weekend in Marquette.
