2024 Less Cancer Ride

When you schedule any outdoor activity in June in Northern Michigan, it’s a roll of the dice. This year, Less Cancer we came snake eyes. On June 1, the kick-off concert at Mt. Holiday was rained out. As the TC ride neared on June, the forecast went from beautiful to iffy to soggy in the course of 12 short hours on Friday.

So we woke up earlier and rode anyway.

A hearty group of riders roll out of bed for a 7am start at Darrow Park, keeping the Less Cancer tradition alive.

The Ride

With dark skies rolling in from Lake Michigan, we cut the route just a bit short, chased by light sprinkles and strong winds from Maple City to home. One of the perks of the 7am start was a complete lack of traffic; we may have seen five cars total in the first two hours of riding.

We also happened upon the M-22 Challenge. It was really need to cheer on athletes deep into the bike leg, especially as the turned into a strong headwind on the southside of Glen Lake.

Somehow, we all made it back together, making it up Philosophy in twos and threes but hitting Darrow as (pretty much) and bunch.

The Cause

Less Cancer might be based in Virginia, but Traverse City is undoubtedly its second home. TC has been the heart and soul of the event for several years, and we’re proud to keep this thing rolling every summer.

Our big ride might be done, but the mission never stops. If you can, donate to our team and help Less Cancer put prevention first. Their programs and advocacy are critical to lowering cancer risks, particularly in rural communities – and every county in our region is rural.

Make your donation to Less Cancer here, and remember, the ride rolls on all month!

A special thanks to everyone who joined the team and donated!
