Photo of the Week: Team SKY Rides for Wiggo

Wearing the leader’s yellow jersey at Paris-Nice as if the sweater was already his, Bradley Wiggins and his SKY squad have already put their stamp on the 2012 “Race to the Sun”. While Mark Cavendish sprinted to victory at Tirreno-Adriatico, the man with his nickname on his jersey (Wiggo, as opposed to his full last name) was using his team and his guts to hold onto his lead by just two seconds. On the fifth stage of Paris-Nice, the SKY boys waited to the final climb to fight on the front, but amazed when they did. After Richie Porte laid the wood, Wiggins was left alone against many of his rivals, including Levi Leipheimer glued to his wheel. Lieuwe Westra got away and rode to within two seconds of Wiggins, and probably would have taken the jersey if not for a 15 meter freewheel in celebration. Maybe that’s the difference between a Tour contender and a guy having a good day: Knowing when to celebrate and when to fight for every second.
